Toddy Shop
Address: 722& 723, Near Pawale Chowk, Kasba Peth, Pune
Year & Date : 1918
Significance:
Toddy shop was jointly owned by Behramji and Merwan. Merwan worked very hard in the shop. Though He was working in this shop, He would discourage customers from drinking. Sadashiv Patil and Syed Shaikh came in Merwan’s contact during this period and later became His close disciples. A room adjoining this shop, (721 Kasba Peth) was rented from Sadashiv. Merwan Seth instructed that it be used as a place of worship.
This room assumed the form of a small temple. Paintings and photographs of different Perfect Masters and saints were hung on all the walls; amongst them the photograph of Upasni Maharaj being the most prominent. Hindu arti and puja ceremonies were regularly performed, usually led by Merwan Seth himself, and special public programs were arranged on Thursdays and Sundays. This can be considered as the foundation that Baba laid for all the future Centres working in His name and for His cause.
